Bonehill Road (2017) A Solid Throwback to the Practical FX Werewolf Movies We Love-Fitz of Horror

Todd Sheets is a marketing genius. He is the walking definition of “Go hard or go home”. Following the critical success of Dreaming Purple Neon (2016), he wasted no time getting back behind the camera and directing on of the coolest werewolf movies to come out in years, Bonehill Road, and I have to say the marketing campaigns for both were amazing and effective.
Synopsis–Emily and Eden Stevens escape one violent situation only to dive head first into another. Terrified and alone they are stranded in the dark woods only to be chased into a horrific scene in a house or horrors. They must work together to get out alive. But what is worse? What is on the inside or out?
The lead characters Emily (Eli DeGeer) and Eden (Ana Rojas-Plumberg), who give excellent performances from start to finish, are screwed from the get go in this “bad to worse” indie horror gem. As the film opens we are thrust into a pretty intense domestic violence situation that these women have to escape from. As they flee the violent scene to escape the danger at home they end up on the highway that leads them to a much different kind of danger on Bonehill Road.
As they are driving something runs in front of them on the road causing them to stop and investigate. When Emily exits the car she doesn’t see anything but what she hears is definitely cause for alarm. Shortly after she gets back in the car the same “something” damages the rear wheel which causes them to crash a little further down the road. Then they soon realize that they are being stalked by some very sinister looking werewolves.
They narrowly escape the pack of werewolves and find a seemingly welcoming house to take refuge from the evil that pursues them. Not long after they enter the house they find women that are tied up, battered, bruised, bloody and being held hostage by a madman (Played perfectly by Douglas Epps) who by his insane words and actions seems worse than what awaits them outside.
I’m not sure what the budget was for this film but I guarantee that a large portion of it went to the excellent werewolf designs. Each werewolf was 100% practical FX and there was even a few very well done transformation scenes that I never expected to see in an indie horror flick.
Whatever you do wait until the end of the credits for a wild post credits scene that seemed as though was a complete afterthought to the production and after the feature was filmed they discovered a bunch of extra money and used it for MORE WEREWOLVES!!!
Don’t expect huge production value or great acting. Expect a fun and well done creature feature that brings back the good old days of practical FX werewolves and a director that loves the genre and what he is doing.
The first OFFICIAL Teaser / Trailer for Bonehill Road, A modern Werewolf film done in an Old School way. ALL Practical Effects, no CGI.
