For The Love of the Boogeyman: 40 Years of Halloween (2018)- Fitz of Horror Review

Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) June 10, 2018

Synopsis-This documentary is by fans and for the fans, chronicling why John Carpenter’s classic has stood the test of time. Bringing together some of the brightest voices from independent horror we will explore what makes the film so special. From the music, the mask to Michael Myers, everyone has their own take on Halloween, and why it is the blueprint for slasher horror and in our humble opinion, has never been bettered.

Featuring some of the brightest stars the indie horror world has to offer, Paul Downey’s For the Love of the Boogeyman: 40 Years of Halloween doesn’t really shed any new light on the franchise but just hearing how Halloween influenced these directors is well worth the price of admission.

On screen appearances include Liam Banks, Brett Dejager, Troy Escamilla, Phil Escott, J Blake Fichera, Rick Gawel, Rocky Gray, Dave Hastings, Johnny Holt, Darren Jones, Dave McRae, James Morrissey, Jack Norman, James Plumb, Nils Reucker, Justin M. Seaman, James Secker, Kevin Somerfield, Richard Stringham and Daniel Mark Young. Each offer their own unique take on the classic film and how it influenced their careers.

For The Love of The Boogeyman: 40 Years of Halloween is written, directed & produced by Paul Downey and produced & edited by David Hastings under the Bloody Flicks label and features its very own short film of Michael Myers journey from mental hospital to legend, that serves as a wraparound story in the documentary.

Clocking in at a brisk 44 minutes, “Boogeyman” has some issues in the sound department but is an overall very fun and interesting take in the Halloween documentary world. It will soon be available to watch in its entirety this fall on YouTube.
