Housesitters (2018)-A Very Unique Creature Feature and Available on Amazon Prime- Fitz of Horror Review
Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) July 30, 2018
Synopsis-Angie and Izzy get a housesitting gig that’s too good to be true. A nice house, a big TV, and a platinum card to order in more food than they could ever eat in one lifetime! But there are a couple of catches: the big bloody pentagram on the floor in the basement, and the little demon with big teeth lurking upstairs. Who will survive the night, and will there be leftover kimchi for them to enjoy?
First off let me say that Housesitters is definitely a low budget film but don’t let that deter you from giving it a shot and having a great time. Jason Coffman’s film is pure fun and shenanigans led by the pot smoking, porn watching duo of Angie (Annie Watkins) and Izzy (Jamie Jirak).
As the film begins, the girls are shooting a horrible commercial for their house sitting service, seemingly the only jobs they are qualified for, that sets the foundation of the film. When they finally land a gig it’s the home of their dreams, complete with a trampoline and a platinum credit card at their disposal.
To speed up the process of checking out the house, the film goes into a cheesy montage of trying on the homeowners clothes, jumping on the trampoline, getting high and taking selfies. As they sit down to relax, Angie realizes that she forgot to show Izzy the basement. What’s in the basement you ask? Just some drums, a workout area and a pentagram drawn in the middle of the room in fresh blood, no big deal.
Shortly after seeing the pentagram the girls begin to realize that there is a monster in the house with them and it is taking out their guests one by one and they are now trapped in the home as sacrifices to an unknown force.
This brings a close to “Part 1” of the film and gives way to the strangest and horribly done computer animated intermission/commercial you might ever see, about a baby bull dog that wants to be a building when it grows up and has cat and dog friends that speak different languages but are explaining to him that he is a dog not a building…….Yeah it’s weird.
“Part 2” of the movie is quite possibly the most unique take on demonic summoning I’ve ever seen in a movie and as to not give anything away I will just say to go into this film with an open mind and just try to have fun because that is what Jason Coffman intended to make, a fun, over the top, raunchy and completely weird film. He absolutely nailed it on all of those points and even managed to throw in a somewhat coherent story.
A little extra insight on the film-

Inspired in equal measure by modern comedy like BROAD CITY and goofy horror films like GHOULIES, this female-led horror/comedy follows the misadventures of Angie (Annie Watkins) and Izzy (Jamie Jirak) as they take on a plum housesitting gig that kind of spirals into supernatural horror.HOUSESITTERS was shot entirely in Humboldt Park and Albany Park in Chicago in the summer of 2016. The cast also includes Peter Ash, Jay J. Bidwell, Bethanie Louise, Mariah Michael, James Timothy Peters, and Ben Schlotfelt. The film features a creature puppet designed and built by Ohio-based independent filmmaker Dustin Wayde Mills (THE PUPPET MONSTER MASSACRE). Behind the camera, Jolene Vega served as cinematographer with Jef Burnham as assistant director and Tatiana von Recklinghausen as lead makeup/effects artist. The soundtrack includes a score by Chicago-based Joshua Burke (who records under the name boardinghouse), with songs by Black Candles, Desire (courtesy of Italians Do It Better), Inner Vegas (courtesy of Good Glass), and Night Witch.
