The VOORHEES Team Drops A Very Unexpected and Very Intense First Trailer!-Fitz of Horror

The Upcoming feature length fan film “VOORHEES” already won Friday the 13th by posting a first look at the final mask choice that will be worn in the film and a very brief and distant shot of Jason himself but just 5 short days later director Cody Faulk caught everyone by surprise by dropping an unexpected “sneak peek” at the type of intense film he is bringing to us all.

As the trailer begins we see someone who appears to have been gut shot and his crew is trying to save. Now I’m sure this next part will go widely unnoticed but needs definite appreciation. As the crew goes to work on the victim’s gunshot wound they actually take off the vest he is wearing to expose his bloody shirt but then they use scissors to cut through his shirt and tear it off exposing the wicked gunshot wound completely. This is a ballsy move by the director because being a low budget horror film he could have just implied the gun shot wound by showing lots of blood but instead he chooses to go down to the white shirt and this is where most directors would have stopped or just cut a small hole, either to save on money or to hide bad practical FX but Faulk chooses to go right to the actors bare skin and put his very realistic and very gory practical FX on full display.

As the tension builds via great and frantic camera angles and well picked music the trailer cuts to a clearly psychotic woman holding another woman hostage while laughing hysterically, showing us that we are dealing with some very unique individuals.

As the camera goes close up on the bloody wound being stitched, it then begins to cut to some characters from the film and there are even a few quick shots of the slasher king himself. In the first shot Jason can be seen stalking his victim and giving a very creepy head turn as he locks onto his prey. Next we see him lifting a victim off the ground while choking him and we get a great side view of the mask while starring up at the victim nearly from Jason’s point of view. In these few very brief moments it is made clear that this version of Jason uses “Kane Hodder” type of deliberate and methodical movements to make him not only look scary but BE scary.

As the final scene begins we see what appears to be a hostage (Danielle Sandler) bound and bloody laying on the ground. As the music intensifies and the hostage slowly and groggily lifts her head to examine her surroundings she catches a glimpse in the distance of a hockey masked figure lurking in the trees beyond everyone’s view but hers. As her eyes and the camera lock onto Jason the music changes to an eerie piano tune and the shot fades to the Voorhees logo.

If anyone was questioning what the quality of this fan film was going to be then this trailer should give you the answer. We have a director in Faulk that is very adept at getting his shots and getting them from unexpected angles, giving the viewer the feeling that we are there with the actors. The actors themselves are 100% into their roles and seem to be giving great performances. The production value is amazing and has the look of both a polished modern film with touches of grind house Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Last House on the Left quality in both look and feel. Then there is Jason. As I stated before, he has a certain look and genuinely creepy qualities that stem from his calculated but not overstated movements.

We are in for a treat people. Voorhees doesn’t “feel” like a fan film, it has the feeling of a real movie (if that makes sense) and has the real possibility to change the way we look at fan films forever.
