Last Trip (2018)-A short film that takes camping to a new level of terror-Fitz of Horror Review

Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) September 7, 2018

Synopsis-Attempting to impress the new girl, an awkward teenager agrees to a camping trip but it could be their last when they come across two hillbillies.

I had the pleasure of checking out this great short film from One Stone Productions and directors Jeff Toldi and Aaron B. Webb before it hits the festival circuits where it is sure to be a hit with fans and judges.

With just under a 25 minute run time, Last Trip is a very fun and well paced watch. When a nerdy teenager (Quinn McGillion) gets an unexpected call from a new girl (Melodie Roehrig) from school about a camping trip, he jumps at the opportunity to spend some time with her even when camping clearly isn’t his thing. After volunteering himself to bring the alcohol he and his best friend decide to go visit their douchey friend (Will Nemi) at the bar he works at too score a keg and against their will he comes on the camping trip with them, a stipulation and providing them with a keg.

After getting to the woods and trying to set up camp (and an impromptu acoustic song montage from Mr. Douche) the campers run across two hillbillies in the woods that have more than camping on their minds. At this point the film does extremely well by jumping from humor to savagery quite seamlessly.

Short films are always tough to review because it is easy to give too much away but I will stop here and just say that this film was smart, funny, gory, original and a great watch for the full 25 minute run time. All of the actors involved were clearly giving their all and it showed. I have no doubt that this film will rack up the honors at the upcoming festivals and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a feature length version at some point down the road.
