100 Tears (2007)- If You Like Your Horror Extreme Then You Will Love Gurdy the Clown- Fitz of Horror Review

Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) June 11, 2018

Synopsis-After being accused of crimes he did not commit, a lonely circus performer exacts his revenge on those who unjustly condemned him. The act sparks something inside of him which he cannot stop and now, years later, his inner-demons have truly surfaced. Part urban legend, part tabloid sensationalism… he is now an unstoppable murderous juggernaut, fueled only by hate.

First of all let me say that as a fan of gory and independent horror that I feel as though I should be publicly flogged for letting 11 years go by with out seeing this tour de force of guts, gore and insanity. It’s not even something I can say I haven’t heard of until recently because I’ve known of it’s existence since its release. Up until the last few years though when Unearthed Films picked up the distribution rights, this was a very hard movie to track down. Even now in it’s new life of easy accessibility, I have kept finding excuses to watch something else instead………..BIG FUCKING MISTAKE!!

When I finally sat down to watch this (on German release Blu ray) I immediately noticed the grainy appearance of the picture quality but realized that’s probably how it’s supposed to be and even if its not, it works. Just in the first half hour there was surprising humor and substance that let me know that I was in for something great. The story begins with a couple of truth seeking tabloid journalists looking for the next lead on a big story but the story they uncover is one they wish they hadn’t.

The movie wastes no time getting to the good stuff. We are quickly introduced to Gurdy the Clown, a very large and very pissed individual that has a taste for brutal and bloody murderous revenge. His giant oversized meat cleaver does the job quite nicely. With FX guru Marcus Koch as the director I knew I was going to be treated to some great practical FX but he goes above and beyond with the unflinching and very brutal gore. I literally have never seen so many guts and disembowelments in one movie.

100 Tears isn’t just a gore fest though, it has substance. The main characters have great chemistry and Joe Davison was able to create a well written story line that was both coherent  and engrossing while keeping your interest after the multitude of gory and chaotic scenes that were shown throughout.

I knew I would like this movie but I ended up loving it. Not only does it boast some of the messiest and stand and cheer type gore scenes of any movie I’ve ever seen, it also has some great twists and turns that add to the experience, all leading up to an amazing final act that needs to be watched until the credits are over.

There is a lot that goes on between the start and end of the film but I am being intentionally vague because I want people that haven’t seen to have the same experience I did when they finally see it. So if you’re a fan of ultra violent horror, put this at the top of your watch list and thank me later!

This DVD is available direct from Unearthed Films website and also on Amazon. It has no official blu ray release but hopefully that changes soon.
