To say that Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (Friday the 13th part 9) is one of the most misunderstood entries in the franchise would be a gross understatement, but finally someone is going to shed some much needed light on this movie once and for all with an upcoming and all encompassing documentary titled ” The Dark Heart of Jason Voorhees: The Making of the Final Friday“. Due for release late 2018, they have just revealed the artwork from artist Chris Fischer for the film and it’s fantastic.

I think it’s great that JGTH director Adam Marcus and documentary director Nicholas Hunt are shedding some much needed light on what is considered by most fans the worst entry in the Friday the 13th franchise. I have always felt that Jason Goes to Hell was definitely different than the rest of the films but by no means “horrible”. In fact, I am sure that Jason Goes to Hell will only gain fans as the years go on and firmly hold a spot next to Halloween III: Season of the Witch as cult favorites within the genre.

Mark my words-Jason Goes to Hell will be getting a stand alone Arrow or collectors edition Scream Factory release soon and hopefully they will include this documentary in the special features.

Stay tuned for more info on release dates and news!

From documentary director Nicholas Hunt-

Few names are as synonymous with horror as Jason Voorhees. The character has become such a pop culture icon that he transcends the genre. Ask any person on the street to describe Jason and they will describe a large killer in a hockey mask haunting a summer camp.

The ninth installment in the series, titled Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, is at once one of the most original and most controversial in the franchise. In 1993 director Adam Marcus’ feature debut
came out and we learned the secret of Jason’s unstoppable killing spree. Now, in time for the 25th anniversary, we are pleased to announce a documentary giving a never-before-seen in depth look at the most infamous Jason film of all time.

Titled “The Dark Heart of Jason Voorhees: The Making of the
Final Friday”, the feature length retrospective will be directed by Nick Hunt (Safe Place) with Adam Marcus (Secret Santa, Texas Chainsaw 3D) along with his partners Debra Sullivan and Bryan Sexton of Skeleton Crew Productions as well as producer John Lepper a.k.a. Johnny Macabre (Don’t Fuck in the Woods 1&2, Crepitus, Be My Cat: A Film for Anne).

Through interviews and behind the scenes details, you will understand the unique landscape the series
was in at the time, having just changed studios and already being on the road to the eventual Freddy vs Jason film which wouldn’t see release for another 8 years. You will see the unusual hand Adam Marcus was dealt and the immense pressure and scrutiny which was placed on him during production. And you
will see genre greats, both who were in the film and not, weigh in on Jason’s journey to hell. In Jason Goes to Hell, you learned secrets about Jason you never knew before! In The Dark Heart of
Jason Voorhees, you will understand what was and what could have been about The Final Friday!

Bravo to this team for tackling this documentary and bringing the real story behind such a misunderstood horror film!
