Good Tidings (2017)-One Hell of a Christmas Ho-Ho-Horror Movie-Fitz of Horror Review

Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) March 17, 2018

I am a sucker for Christmas themed horror movies, just check my Fitz of Horror’s Guide to Christmas Horror Movies list (which includes this film). When watching Christmas horror movies I feel that it is important to only view the film within the Christmas sub genre, meaning don’t compare it to everything else because it’s different. That being said, Good Tidings from Two Headed Snake Entertainment is a great Christmas horror movie and one that will be on my must watch holiday horror list for every December from here on out!

This is another movie that I will urge you to disregard the low ratings (4/10 stars on IMDb) and go into with an open and festive mind. The premise isn’t original nor are the stereotypical “good guys” involved but the writing is strong and the “Bad Santas” are genuinely creepy. We get great practical FX and some very original kills along with a good pace and great setting.

Synopsis-A homeless war-veteran with a chequered past must rely on a side of himself once thought buried when he and his companions are targeted by three vicious psychopaths wearing Santa suits on Christmas Day.

The film kicks of with a pinch of humor followed by a punch of some ultra violence as we meet our pre santa masked mad men. This opening scene was extremely well done and sets the tone for what we can expect from them in them for the rest of the film.

When we are introduced to Frank (Colin Murtagh), it is obvious that he is someone that is not to be messed with and that there is more than meets the eye with him. As the film goes on we are introduced to our main group of people, all homeless, who have taken temporary residence in an abandoned courthouse, all of which given the short amount of time we get to know them we feel for them (great writing).

By this time our  psychos dressed as Larry, Curly and Moe Santa(s) have targeted the courthouse and entered while the residents are having a Christmas celebration, locking the main entrance and trapping everyone inside for the ensuing systematic slaughter of the innocent.

One of the things that works extremely well for this film and gives it a truly creepy feeling is that all three of the Santas are mute, using only primal grunts and gestures to communicate. Also the intense and dark versions of beloved and well known Christmas tunes that foreshadow impending doom and violence was an excellent touch and also what sets this Christmas horror movie apart from others, in my opinion.

Put Good Tidings high on your list of movies to watch in December and if you are a fan of holiday horror do yourself a favor and check this one out!
