Synopsis After moving into a new house, a husband and wife try to keep their relationship together as an evil presence starts haunted their life. “Creature” is a short horror drama produced by young filmmakers in Savannah, GA.

The Indiegogo for the short film Creature is live and they are looking to raise $3,000 to shoot their character-driven practical FX creature feature to terrifying life. Focusing on a married couple with communication issues among others, their dissent seems to be manifesting a real and very dangerous creature that may prove that their everyday issues might be the least of their worries.

I love the premise of this because who can’t relate to the relationship issues and the struggle to keep the lines of communication open and healthy? What if these issues manifested a creature hell-bent of devouring us? I hope to see these questions answered when writer/director Chase McNaughten is able to bring his vision to film.

About the story

“Creature” is a dramatic horror short about the trials and turmoil of maintaining a
crippling marriage.

The story involves a husband and wife trying to repair their struggling relationship while battling an unknown evil that is hunting them down from within their home – the Creature.

Half of the world’s marriages are ending in divorce. We allow the world’s evils to seep into our lives and cloud our judgment on whether we should give up on others. The cast and crew of “Creature” hope is that this film can inspire our culture to think differently and work towards reparation when destruction seems so imminent in our relationships.

About the Project

“Creature” has been a project in the works for quite some time. Writer and director, Chase McNaughton, sought to collaborate with some of the most enthusiastic and hardworking minds in Savannah, Georgia. For nearly a year, “Creature” has been in the works, and every day, it becomes closer and closer to becoming a reality.

The Creature at the heart of this movie is different from other horror monsters seen today within the genre. Our monster will be brought to life entirely through the efforts of practical effects, makeup, and costume design. It is important to our team that our Creature is grounded in reality, much like our film’s central conflict of the perseverance of love throughout hardship. Our Creature needs to feel as real as possible to not only our protagonists, but our viewers to get this message effectively across. Behind “Creature” is an incredibly talented Production Design team that is wholeheartedly devoted to this task.

Budget Breakdown

In order to create “Creature” to the highest standards of production quality, a budget is necessitated. As students of the Savannah College of Art and Design, we have access to industry standard equipment to propel us to this goal, but we would like to acquire additional equipment to achieve our fullest creative potential.

With the funds gained from this campaign, we would also like to make sure our production design team has all of the resources necessary to achieve the best final product. While a major focus of our production design team is the creation of our Creature and bringing it to life through entirely practical effects, we also want to give the team the creative freedom to transform our house location into a character in itself. As the metaphorical cage in which our protagonists and our Creature are trapped within, it is so essential that our house has the same level of care that any of our characters receive in the production design process, and our team has so many plans as to how this will be achieved.

As well as additional equipment and production design costs, our budget includes general expenses that are necessary to running and maintaining a set such as this one for the duration of our six filming days.
