Pappy’s World (2018)-A Dementedly wild short film that will leave you saying “WTF!?”-Fitz of Horror Review

Synopsis-A girl in post-racial America gets a killer doll for Christmas.

Director Matt Wisniewski has managed to leave me nearly speechless with his insane short film Pappy’s World. After seeing the poster (above), I really had no idea what to expect but what Matt put on screen was something I truly never expected.

Pappy’s World starts off with an innocent young girl trying to sneak the highest present off of an impossibly high stack of Christmas presents, in a scene reminiscent of something from Dr. Suess’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas but quickly turns into an acid fueled ride into a world of killer dolls, Vietnam flashbacks and strange eroticism.

When The girl (Jaz Frazier) opens this gift it turns out to be Pappy, an african american doll with white facial hair and an unhealthy appetite for revenge. Sleeping in the same room, the girls grandfather (Fred Polone, who also writes), who looks a lot like Pappy, wakes up and we see that Grandpa and Pappy know each other and Pappy has “come to collect”.

Coming in at just over 8 minutes, Pappy’s World is extremely well shot and full of insanity that I truly believe NO ONE will expect or be prepared for. From an eclectic soundtrack to Argento style lighting and one of the wildest stories ever told in a short period of time, you will no doubt be left scratching your head but definitely wanting to watch it again. I have now seen it 5 times and it is finally beginning to sink in….I think.

Let this film be a cautionary tale to never ever open Christmas presents early without permission.
