The Predator (2018)- Don’t Believe the Critics, This Was a Really Good Sequel!-Fitz of Horror Review

SynopsisFrom the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

First things first, There aren’t many action/sci-fi/horror movies that are as good as the original Predator so the first key to enjoying The Predator is to just get the comparisons out of your head. No sequel will ever compare to the original.

I have been excited about this movie for over a year ever since I heard that it was a possibility and that original Predator alumni Shane Black would be directing but within the past few weeks leading up to its highly anticipated release, it has been getting bashed by critics and casual fans (34% on the Rotten Tomato meter and a 54% audience approval). But after watching it for myself I can clearly see that those numbers are bogus and being turned in by turds.

The action and gore in this movie definitely rivals if not surpasses the original with new weapons and new predators dishing out the brutality and dismemberment and the team chemistry of the crew is great, with all of the individual members feeding off of each other for a surprisingly funny experience as well.

The only real complaint I have is that the ending seemed a little rushed. The film has a 1h 47 minute run time and the first hour and twenty minutes were a really fun and action packed ride but the last half hour was a little messy but I can forgive that because it does set up for a sequel and the overall fun I had was worth any shortcomings the film may have had.

The Predator is easily my favorite Predator sequel, although I do love Predator 2, but there is just too much to like about this movie and I believe it will be bringing more new fans to the beloved original and the subsequent franchise.

This is a “popcorn movie” meaning it is best viewed in the theater where it is dark and loud and you can hear the ooohs,  aaahs and “Oh my gods” from the casual viewers. It was well worth the money spent to experience this film in the theater.

Is The Predator a “great” movie? At moments yes but as a whole no. Is The Predator a fun movie? You bet your ass it is!!

Don’t listen to the critics, form your own opinion and have fun doing so!
