Camp Death III in 2D (2018)-This Friday the 13th Parody is “The Most Horrible Good Movie Ever”- Fitz of Horror Review

Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) September 10, 2018

Synopsis-Camp Crystal Meph has reopened but the curse of killer Johann Van Damme continues. Camp ‘Death’ has been given a new life as rehab center for mentally ill adults yet an unseen evil begins to murder campers and staff alike. Has Johann risen from the grave or is this the work of a copycat?

Falling somewhere in between Dude Bro Party Massacre III and Ernest Goes to Camp, Camp Death III in 2D is one of the most insane and irreverent films you are likely to see for quite some time.

The film begins with a flashback to the original killing spree by Johann Van Damme (our Jason like character) and then opens with a newspaper montage giving nearly the full back story before we dive head first into bat shit crazy. Speaking of bat shit crazy, The highly inept camp leader Todd Boogjumper (Dave Penuik) has the brilliant idea of reviving Camp Crystal Meph aka Camp Death and making it a rehabilitation retreat for mentally/criminally insane individuals.

Helping him at the camp is Rachel (Angela Glananopolous) who has a mysterious link to the camp and Todds crazy uncle Mel. As the crazy campers arrive on Wednesday the 11th we begin our wacky countdown to Friday the 13th when all hell breaks loose.

After we meet each of the very “unique” campers and get more back story on the counselors, the complete ridiculousness begins. Johann dispatches of the mental health patients in ways that could only be called “total WTF moments”. In one scene he takes out a camper with a semi automatic toaster that shoots, you guessed it, toast. After some other very creative kills Johann is spotted sitting on a hover bike, just like the ones seen in Star Wars, which leads to a chase straight from the forest of Endor scene culminating in 2 more hilariously insane deaths.

See, I wasn’t kidding!

The important thing to know when watching this movie is that it is a spoof/homage to mainly Friday the 13th III in 3D but also Sleepaway Camp and other slasher films of the 80s making several references along the way for the diehard genre fans and making good use of the old horror cliches we love. I do feel that the movie fell off a bit in the last half hour but I think by that time my mind was just completely blown from the visual and mental assault my unprepared brain was taking (yes that’s a good thing), or maybe this film just would have worked better with a bit shorter running time (1:25).

Camp Death III in 2D is raunchy, vulgar, totally un PC, stupid, funny, gory and downright weird so if you are going into this expecting something specific, throw that shit out! Go into this one with a very open mind and possibly a 6 pack and some friends.

Just watch the trailer and see what I’m talking about!
