She Was So Pretty: Be Good For Goodness Sake (2017)- 2 Serial Killers Create Bloody Christmas Chaos During the Holiday Season- Fitz of Horror Review

Brooklyn Ewing’s She Was So Pretty: Be Good for Goodness Sake (2017) is the follow up to 2016s She Was So Pretty (Read my review HERE) where an awkward serial killer, Alfred James Ellis III (Alfie) is stalking pretty girls in his home town.

If you saw the first film then you know that it was inspired but just needed a little something extra and without giving too much away for those that haven’t seen it, I’ll just say that the sequel picks up where the first one left off and Brooklyn Ewing has grown leaps and bounds as a director and story teller. Her style is that of an early Lucky McKee and his film MAY whereas, her ability to choose music to elevate scenes and sequences or give her seemingly despicable characters an extra layer of depth and realness. Her camera work was already good in the first film but again has grown to the skills of a seasoned director with a keen eye for the right shots.

As we are reintroduced to Alfie (Played perfectly by Jerry Larew) and the insane Detective Baldwin (Cory Rutter) they are carrying out atrocious acts on an innocent woman as she prepares for Christmas. It is obvious these two have been up to no good since the first film because as they leave the victims house they begin tearing down missing persons posters that they are clearly responsible for.

After scouting another victim Alfie takes time to go to the park to look at a Christmas display where he meets the pretty but awkward Eleanor (Destiny Brooke Loper) who instantly takes a liking to the even more awkward Alfie and gives him her phone number. These two go on to take part in multiple uneasy interactions throughout the film as they develop a mutual interest in each other and I’ll just say that there is more to sweet awkward little Eleanor than meets the eye.

As Alfie and Baldwin continue their con to get into unsuspecting victims homes to violate and murder them, two characters from the original film reappear and are seeking answers from the detective about their missing friend (One of Alfie’s victims from the first film), they start to realize that Detective Baldwin isn’t who they thought he was. This adds an interesting element to the story because until now our killers were basically getting away with their crimes virtually undetected and uninterrupted but now they are being followed.

As the film carries on the trust between Alfie and his partner in crime begins to unravel. The impression is that Alfie is truly a calculating and sadistic serial killer by nature and Baldwin who shows Alfie zero respect is just using him to carry out his violent, narcissistic and demented fantasies. This is another genius layer to the film that creates a feeling of uneasiness and makes you pick between the lesser of two evils.

The final act of this film is a thing of deranged beauty and will no doubt leave you wanting more of this story and with the graduation of talent Ewing has shown, the next film (if she chooses to do one) will be amazing as well. I was left with an extremely satisfied feeling when the credits began to roll.

I am now looking forward to her next project, Tales From the Creep, an anthology horror film and her first feature outside of the SWSP universe.
