The Witching Season (2018)- An Anthology of Terror in the Vein of Tales From the Crypt- Fitz of Horror Review

Written by Bryan Fitzgerald (Fitz of Horror) April 22, 2018

Synopsis- Fueled by nostalgia, this anthology of short horror films tells original tales of terror set during the Halloween season.

What started out as a very successful Youtube web series, The Witching Season is now available on Blu ray.

It is helpful too go into The Witching Season not expecting a Creepshow type of anthology horror movie with a wraparound story that ties everything together but rather a TV show style gathering of original and very creative horror short films in the vein of Tales from the Crypt.

Directors James Morris and Michael Ballif are extremely talented directors and story tellers as can be seen with each segment. The attention to detail the have in each story are superb and the cinematography and shot selection are extremely high level especially by independent standards.

Here are a few of the episodes so you can get a taste of what you’re in for!

Killer on the Loose-

An Escaped Killer lurks in the shadows of an isolated home on Halloween night.

Princess-

In search of a new beginning, Kendra and her daughter Jamie move into a quiet home in the suburbs. But something evil lurks in the basement, and it isn’t looking for roommates.

Not Alone-

Upon waking from a horrific nightmare, Kyle struggles to bridge the gap between his dreams and reality.

They Live Inside Us-

A writer spends the night in a notoriously haunted house in hope of finding inspiration for his latest project. He soon realizes that he is living in his own horror story.

This one was inspired by a the Stephen King quote “Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win”.

Is That You?

Confined to her bedroom on Halloween night, Whitney notices an eerie figure lurking outside her home.

All in one place for the first time on Blu ray, these inspired Halloween tales are perfect for late nights with friends and well worth adding to our collection. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a yearly release with new episode compilations. With the exceptional quality of the films I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Netflix pick up the series and put it in their seasonal rotation.
