You’ll never look at your laundry room the same

Synopsis- SockMonster is a short film that follows Anne, a mother who is shattered by the loss of her young child. Refusing to let her go, Anne finds that its not only socks that go missing in the dryer.

SockMonster clocks in at a brisk four minutes and thirty five seconds but packs every second with dread, despair and intrigue. Writer/director Wesley Alley skips all of the “getting to know you” stuff and seems to jump right to the violent final confrontation between the distraught mother (Briana Evigan) and the child murdering SockMonster (Derek Mears) but does so brilliantly.

It’s not as easy as one might think to give a review on a movie that is less than five minutes long. I will say that in this short amount of time though that Alley masterfully gives attention to all of the little details and has you feeling for our angry and mourning mother. An ominous tone was set from the beginning and lasts until the very end leaving the viewer with the impression that this small amount of time has given you all of the back story, intensity and action needed to be fully satisfied by the time the credits role.

With a premise that could have easily become a comedy, Alley’s use of Derek Mears (Jason from the 2009 Friday the 13th) and his immense size, elevates the monster in question to a very scary and intimidating force.

SockMonster will be hitting festival circuits this year and will definitely be taking home some hardware. We’ll keep you updated on every victory and all of Wesley Alley’s upcoming features!
