The Meg (2018)- The Official Trailer is Here-We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Ocean-Fitz of Horror

The worldwide trailer for The MEG,  the highly anticipated movie adaptation of Steve Alten’s amazing book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror is finally here and we get to see the giant shark in action.

Synopsis-

A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—is attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor is recruited by visionary Chinese oceanographer Dr. Minway Zhang, against the wishes of his daughter Suyin, to save the crew from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that this movie doesn’t make it over 40% on the Rotten Tomato Meter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to finally get to see the trailer but it just has a hollow feeling to it. It is definitely one that I will be experiencing in the theater but my expectations will be very low.

I feel like director Jon Turteltaub and writer Dean Georgaris have their hearts in the right place by bringing this brilliant book to life but ultimately it’s just showing off the fact that we now have CGI and can do the things Spielberg wasn’t able to do with JAWS. The trailer reminds me of the Piranha 3D remake with a mix of Sharknado and Deep Blue Sea thrown into the mix.

I really hope I am wrong because I love creature features like this.

The Meg is set to hit theaters on August 10, 2018
